1. Praia da Marinha

Stunning, but go for the view and the calm cove water — the stair access means a carrier beats a stroller.

2. Meia Praia, Lagos

Long, flat, and wide with gentle entry. The easiest of the bunch for little kids and the best for parking.

3. Praia dos Salgados

Backed by a lagoon full of flamingos — a built-in nature walk when the kids tire of sand.

4. Praia da Falésia

Kilometres of space, so it never feels crowded even in August. Bring a beach tent; shade is scarce.

5. Praia de São Rafael

Calm, scenic, and small enough to keep eyes on everyone. Get there before 10am in summer.
